Tomaz Hipolito's work has evolved in several mediums such as photography, video, installation, performance and drawing. With a background in architecture, the work addresses the issues of space, its occupation and transformation. Hipolito frequently revisits motifs and themes he explores over time, a process that reflects the importance the artist gives to “excavation” as he proceeds in his thematic research. Looking upon the contexts in which Tomaz Hipolito has been producing his work, his interest in moving through different kinds of spaces becomes evident. What drives the creation of each work is the motivation he gets from a specific place, combined with his desire to experiment with and respond to settings with very different characteristics and implications. Random attitudes, over a specific project, act in space in order to create singular experiences.
