전시소개
회화를 주 매체로 다루는 장종완 작가는 작가 특유의 유머러스한 상황과 초현실적인 이미지들이 구성된 풍경으로 어딘가 익숙하지만 화려한, 그리고 유머러스하지만 시니컬한 메시지를 전달하고 있다. 가족 사진을 주업으로 하는 글래머샷(이보라, 한대웅 듀오)은 키치함으로 가득한 화면 속에서 현대 사회에서 형성된 다양한 개념의 가족 사진을 촬영하는 그룹이다. 스페이스 윌링앤딜링에서 소개하는 전시 <투 더 문 To the Moon>은 사진과 회화를 기반으로 한 설치작업을 통하여 현대사회에서 무수히 생성되고 있는 성공 신화(특히 가상화폐, 주식, 부동산 등)에 관한 풍경을 드러낸다.
실제로 가상화폐 커뮤니티에서 최고 상한가를 지칭하는 은어로 사용되고 있는 전시 제목 ‘투 더 문’은 글래머샷 팀의 가상화폐에 대한 경험을 기반으로 한다. 가상화폐 속 ‘투 더 문’에 도달하고자 하는 바램은 신화적 허상과 현실 사이에서 드러나는 현대 사회 속 인간의 욕망을 드러낸다고 볼 수 있는데, 이 외에도 “떡락”, “그래프가 지하실로”, “운전을 거칠게 한다”, “장에 탑승하다” 등의 다양한 은어들과 이를 둘러싼 심리전으로 인해 생성되는 감정의 변화 등이 전시 공간 속에서 은유적으로 시각화된다. 현대 신화로서의 현상을 바라보며 화려함을 좇는 욕망과 그 이면의 풍경은 장종완 작가 특유의 비현실적이며 유머러스한 이미지들과 글래머샷 특유의 화려하고 키치한 이미지들이 어우러져 색다른 공간으로 드러나게 된다.
작가소개
장종완 Jang Jongwan은 1983년 부산 출생으로 홍익대학교 미술대학 회화과를 졸업했다. 현재 서울에 거주하며 활동중이다. 아라리오뮤지엄(2020),아라리오갤러리(2017), 금호미술관(2015) 등에서 개인전을 개최했으며, 부산현대미술관(2021), 일민미술관(2021), 서울시립 북서울미술관(2021), 국립현대미술관 청주관(2019), 덴마크 코펜하겐 니콜라이 쿤스트홀(2019) 등의 주요 단체전에 다수 참여했다.
글래머샷 Glamour shot은 을지로에서 사진관을 운영하고 있으며 80, 90년대 미국에서 유행했던 과장되고 키치한 사진 방식을 참조해 독특한 분위기의 현대 가족사진을 찍고 있는 이보라, 한대웅으로 구성된 듀오 팀이다.
Exhibition
Korean artist Jang Jongwan, who deals with painting as the main medium, delivers a somewhat familiar and colorful, and humorous but cynical message with the landscape composed of funny situations and surreal images unique to the artist.
Glamour shot (Lee Bora and Han Daewoong), whose main business is family photos, is a group that takes various concepts of family photos formed in modern society on a screen full of kitschiness.
The exhibition To the Moon, presented by Space Willing N Dealing, reveals the landscape of success myths(especially virtual currency, stocks, real estate, etc.) that are being created countless times in modern society through installation work based on photos and paintings.
The exhibition title "To the Moon," whose expression is used as a slang for the highest upper limit in the virtual currency community, is based on the Glamour shot team's actual experience.
The desire to reach "To the Moon" in virtual currency can be seen as revealing human desires between mythical illusions and reality, as well as various slangs such as "Ddukrak(words that emphasize a sudden decline)," "chart into the basement," "Driving rough," "Riding," etc. are metaphorically visualized in the exhibition space.
The desire to pursue splendor while looking at the phenomenon as a modern myth and the scenery behind it are revealed as another kind of space by combining the unrealistic and humorous images unique to Jang Jongwan and the colorful and kitsch images unique to Glamour shot.
Artists
Jang Jongwan graduated from the Department of Painting at Hongik University College of Art. He held solo exhibitions at Arario Museum (2020), Arario Gallery (2017), and Kumho Museum of Art (2015), and etc. He also participated in many major group exhibitions such as Busan Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (2021), Seoul Museum of Art (2021), Cheongju National Museum of Contemporary Art (2019), and Nikolaj Kunsthal (2019).
Glamour shot is a duo team composed of Lee Bo-ra and Han Dae-woong, who run a photo studio in Euljiro, Seoul and take modern family photos with a unique atmosphere by referring to the exaggerated and kitsch photography popular in the U.S. in the 80s and 90s.
